You’ll also learn the rea-sons why many feel Grand Turk was the island on which Columbus first made landfall in 1492, a claim that sev-eral Caribbean islands would love to make, but one that will probably remain in dispute for all time. What we know for certain, howev-er, is that Astronaut John Glenn’s first steps on Earth after his historic orbit of the planet were made on the island of Grand Turk in 1962! The Botanical Gardens are located adjacent to the museum; here you can learn about the native vegetation in the Turks and Caicos Islands, including medicinal uses.
