Originating around the islands of Hawaii and often called Beach Boy Surfing, the sport was adopted as a way for surf instructors to keep a more watchful eye on students and then as a way for surf staff to capture photos of tourists learning to surf off Waikiki. The sport is popular with women because a lower centre of gravity means women have a built in leg-up, so to speak. An excellent core work-out, Stand Up Paddleboarding is a great way to explore the mangroves. Quiet and discrete, the paddle-board is minimally invasive, allowing you to view aquatic and marine life without disturbing them. Because you are standing up, the board gives you a perfect, and unique, vantage point from which to survey the sur-rounding waters. If you’re a pro you can get started by renting the board and paddle, but you can also take in some instruction or a guided tour. Check out Abuv-It-All or Big Blue Unlimited.
