Where When How March April 2012 : MAP15Exploring North Caicos Although North and Middle Caicos offer you a chance to visit islands that are virtually untouched by the out-side world and to get a real taste of island life, the islands also offer all the conveniences of our more developed islands. Grocery stores, gas stations, restaurants, automobile rental and accommodations from basic to luxu-ry, can all be found on both islands. So, hop on the ferry from Providenciales, hop off on NORTH CAICOS… and get ready for a real Caribbean adventure as you further explore the Caicos Islands. THREE MARY CAYS ❏ Sandy Point Landing This is where the Provo to North ferries will deposit you. You will be greeted here by rental car agencies or your taxi service, whatever you have pre-arranged. There is a cafe for snacks, beverages and bicycle rentals. ❏ Cottage Pond A vertical cave filled with water and surrounded by lush vegetation, more than 260 deep, Cottage Pond is home to a family of Least Grebes. ❏ The Village of Kew Kew has rich soil and fresh groundwater, here you can find large trees in both orchards and forests. Also home to “Lady Liza, Donkey of Kew”, the last donkey on North Caicos, keep your eyes peeled as you’re likely to see her foraging along the road. ❏ Wades Green Plantation A well preserved 1789 Loyalist Plantation. For self-guided one mile hike purchase a pamphlet in advance or for a better learning experience book a tour with one of our knowl-edgeable eco-guides. WADES GREEN PLANTATION WHITBY BEACH COTTAGE POND MAP # 11 ❏ Government Agricultural Station Located outside the Village of Kew you can buy organically grown fruits and vegetables. ❏ Whitby You will find several accommodation and dining establish-ments, and a popular beach bar, along seven miles of beach. ❏ Three Mary Cays Sanctuary West of Whitby a series of tracks will take you to the Three Mary Cays Sanctuary where there is an opportu-nity for fantastic snorkelling around the shores. ❏ Horsestable Beach A great stopping off place to picnic, have a swim and to catch some rays. ❏ Flamingo Pond Overlook East of Whitby you will find Flamingo Pond Overlook. There are plenty of flamingos and other water birds to see, at a distance. You will need binoc-ulars and a good zoom camera lens. ❏ Major Hill Settlement Location of the North Caicos International Airport, groceries, snacks and gas stations. ❏ Bottle Creek A series of small settlements overlooking Bottle Creek with dramatic views toward East Bay Islands Reserve. This is a convenient stop for gas and snacks.
